Weekly roundup: Sneeze, sniffle, cough and wheeze

This week, Oakwood doctors saw many patients for two conditions that primarily affect the head, nose and chest. Here’s a quick roundup of what’s going around:

  • David Szaraz, MD, a family medicine physician at Oakwood Healthcare Center – Belleville, said that allergies continue to be the most common ailment among his patients.
  • The Critical Care Unit at Oakwood Hospital – Southshore said that they’re seeing a higher than average number of pneumonia cases. Pneumonia is an infection that is typically treatable at home for most people, but can be severe in infants, young children, older adults or those with a compromised immune system. It’s important to know the symptoms of pneumonia so you can get the appropriate treatment, which may include antibiotics or antiviral medications.

Allergies continue to be a problem for many Oakwood patients.
